Donate to the Solar Seed Fund, Support a Family GiveSolar is helping twenty Central Valley Habitat for Humanity households to install solar systems in the next five years. To help us get there, we’re asking for support from local individuals. Here’s how it works:   GiveSolar will raise $100,000 for a Solar Seed Fund and partner with Central Valley Habitat for Humanity to install solar systems on twenty low-income homes over the next five years. All donations to the Solar Seed Fund will be matched by an anonymous donor until we reach our goal of $100,000.   The Solar Seed Fund pays the upfront costs of installing solar on new Habitat homes with suitable roofs (about $5,000 for each solar system).   The Solar Seed Fund regenerates itself—homeowners pay upfront solar costs back into the Solar Seed Fund over the term of their mortgages.   Solarized Habitat homes provide homeowners with net savings of about $20 a month and are projected to save homeowners about $14,000 over the thirty-year lifetimes of the solar arrays. The development of the Solar Seed Fund aims to address three urgent challenges: (1) access to solar energy for low-income households, (2) economic insecurity caused by energy burden, and (3) the widespread transition to low-carbon energy sources necessary to address climate change. We also encourage individuals to annually support Central Valley Habitat for Humanity’s ongoing efforts to construct affordable housing.
