Solarize Habitat Virginia
In November of 2021, GiveSolar successfully completed a “Solar Seed Fund” project in collaboration with Central Valley Habitat for Humanity (based in Bridgewater, VA). The $127,000 seed fund is a sustainable model for installing solar photovoltaic systems on all new homes built by Central Valley Habitat until 2026.
As a result of the successful demonstration of proof-of-concept, GiveSolar is now collaborating with Habitat for Humanity Virginia and Solar United Neighbors on a two-year project that aims to assist all interested Habitat affiliates in Virginia in developing sustainable solar programs. The project launched on December 1, 2021.
GiveSolar has developed a “Solar Toolkit” that provides resources to Habitat affiliates to implement sustainable solar programs. The tools in the toolkit will allow affiliates to install solar on the homes that they build going forward.
The aims of the project are two-fold:
- Implement up to 10 solar pilot projects within unique affiliates around the state;
- Advise the affiliates regarding how to implement sustainable models of installing solar going forward.
Habitat affiliates interested in implementing a solar pilot project should contact Jeff Heie, Director of GiveSolar, at [email protected].
